All I want to do is go to the gym
I hate birthdays. Every idiot with a fake smile plastered across their face telling you happy birthday, when really it's not some grand accomplishment to have survived another year. Nothing worthy of praise. Shit, I barely run my life, yet all these people are so fucking excited that I managed a year. Not only that, but it hasn't been about me in years.
My ex called me today to wish me a happy birthday, but I KNOW she doesn't really care. that's a whole screwed up apendix to my autobiography right there. It's her own guilt that made her call, not genuine sentiments.
Mom calls me, her childhood friend is in town with her neese who is "GORGEOUS." and she wants me to meet her. I have a girlfriend.
Then she hooks me up with a free haircut for my birthday so I can look extra spiffy when I meet this girl, who lives 2000 miles away, and is NOT my girlfriend. I think "great! something I need as a present!" Oddly enough I was just standing in front of a mirror contemplating shaving my head when I got the phonecall. I get there and there's my mom and her friend (and employee) picking out a haircut for me... After fighting with them for what seems like an eternity, I settle on getting their haircut just to shut them up... but they still feel compelled to watch me get it cut for most of the time.
Then they ask if I want to go see a local waterfall (another avenue for me to meet and fall in love with this relative that isn't) and seem confused when i tell them no, I have to go to the gym today. Like it's some mystery that I go lift weights regularly. Like all of a sudden I'm not conforming to THEIR plans for MY birthday and it's some big fucking thing...
Anybody else hate their birthdays as much as I do? It's not the age thing, I don't mind getting older (no 23 year old does), but it's never about you. It's about other people trying to show they can make you happy, and their happiness is now dependent on your ability to fein joy while enduring whatever they have planned for they day.
Want me to be happy today? Wish me a happy birthday in the morning, let me get on with my fucking day, make my own decisions (on my own fucking haircut for christ's sake), and then sit down with me for a big dinner with everyone who gives a shit at night. Don't fuck up my day with your shitty plans to hook me up with one of your friends relatives, give me some fucked up guilt ridden phonecall, or backhanded free services. A birthday, to me, is an opportunity to have one day move the way every day should move: a morning greeting, a good nag free day taking into consideration the sentiments of other people, and a big dinner with those who care about you. I don't need presents, I don't need money, I don't want the birthday bullshit.
Post haircut, I bought a bottle of water, went to my car and popped a bunch of phosphatidylserine and some spike, and I'm just about ready to hit the gym. All I want is to abuse some iron now... I'm already ready for dinner. Pills + iron will set me free.
ok, the haircut thing seems trivial, but it's like somebody taking you to buy clothes and then insisting on only getting you pink polo shirts with the collars popped up.
I hate my birthday.

I like my birthday a lot better now that I live 5 states away from the people that used to fuck it up.
*hugs Urban* Happy birthday you pumpkin pie-haircutted freak.

Wow... You're trying to make yourself a victim on your birthday? People wish you happy birthday and you hate them for it? You sound a bit anti-social to me. Anyhow, I can relate to you in some ways. I don't think birthdays are anything special, except for the cake and presents. It's a part of American culture and you'll have to learn to live with it. Or you could be an ass and make sure no one ever thought of celebrating your birthday again. But hell, I don't even wish my own mother happy birthday...

and you're calling me antisocial? In any event, my placebos are kicking in and my mood is improving, so I'm going to go lift heavy things and set them down again.

My mom always tells me I can do whatever I want on my birthday. I've gone to the gym the last 3 birthday's I've had.
I get what Urban's saying though: I hate how everybody tried to make it seem like some spectacular day, when all I really want is to have a good day.

Why shouldn't I, or you? It's just another day of the year anymore, but i still enjoy it, it's a marker that shows im still alive and doing well. If you hate people wishing you a happy b-day, especially your mom, you've got serious anti social problems.

I dont know how old you guys are. However, birthdays become meaningless as you get older. No one cares except for every 5 years.

My 24th was last Thursday. I didn't even tell anyone here until the day of, and even then I only told a select few. You have to tell SOMEONE, otherwise who's going to buy your drinks?
I also live 1000 miles away from most people I know, so that makes it easier too. I took the day off from work, relaxed, lifted weights (of course), and then watched a band with a few friends.
Birthday shit doesn't bother me much, but I can see where you're coming from not wanting to deal with some imposed "celebrations."
