Classic, like since the FAQ was written?
5x5 training has been around for like 100 years and the Bill Starr version has been around since the 70's.

The DJ program is a great way to train a bunch of young athletes at the same time with minimal facilities. If you have a bench and a rack 5x5 would be better.
If you have a sincere interest int he O-lifts the other program in the book is good for a beginner, though I still think a squat heavy routine like 5x5 would be in order while learning the fast lifts, since poor technical ability in them prevents any kind of strength being gained since the load will be very very low.

Just pick one and fucking do it, shove food in your face, and you'll figure it out eventually.

Yeah, but haven't powerlifters been saying for a long time to just squat/bench/deadlift, and have some assistance for each?

I moved back to Philly but I'm not working much, so I'm couch surfing and have no internet access. Basically my life is full of fail. I drink for free nearly everywhere though.

5x5.
I would rather beginners gain proficiency on basic 3-4 lifts(deadlift, squat, OHP, bench), before doing FS and Clean. I do like the higher reps used (tho not for the clean) in DJ's program for some hypertrophy gains that many beginners need.
