5x5 vs dan john beg. routine

which routine do you guys feel would be better to start off with:

bill starr's 5x5 or the beginners routine in Dan Johns e-book "from the ground up"

I don't think people know dan johns program, but 5x5 is time tested and idiot proof.

this is the dan john one from the book
The "Rapid Ascent" Program
Three Days a Week in the Weightroom:
Power Clean
8-6-4 reps
Military Press
8-6-4 reps
Front Squat
8-6-4 reps
Increase weight when you get all the reps!

Well, which lifts do you want to improve? If your focus in on the big three, then I would probably do the 5x5. If your focus is on the dan John lifts, then I'd do that program.
