Does the rubber guard cause any knee problems?

Does the rubber guard cause any knee problems? I wanna try it, but I'm not sure the leg was meant to take that kinda pressure from those angles. . . .

I do not know the answer. But I have heard that in general fancy open guards tend to give certain people problems.

Not really (although I do get some soreness the day after I play alot of it). Just make sure you've worked on your flexibility before you try it, and your joints and muscles should be able to handle at least small session of rubber guard without a problem. Check out that 'Eddie Bravo Rubber Guard' video thread and give it a shot, it's a fun and useful guard to know.

It shouldn't if you do it right, but if all you have to go off of are books, then you're much more likely to hurt yourself.

Since we are on the topic. I have been doing a lot of DeLaRiva and Foot on Bicep guard and I am starting to worry about knee damage. There is a lot of torque on my knee when I enter it on someone resisting and Im starting to feel the strain.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I can do to prevent this?

If you stretch your hips out well, you can get hip flexibility to replace the pressure on the knee.

Groin and hip stretches, combined with some high rep ab/aducter exercises at the gym. Yea, the 'good girl', 'bad girl' machines actually help your guard strength and flexibility while helping to prevent injury, so sack up and use them (when nobody is looking....).

I think I get it. Kind of like the rubber guard. When done right there shouldnt be much preassure on the knee, but if not flexible enough the knee is strained to compensate for the hips.

I will probably pass on the vagina stretcher. I cant be bothered explaining to random people why Im using that machine.

I've never felt a lot of pressure on my knees from doing delariva guard, and i have 1 bad knee and 1 not so good knee. I toyed a bit with rubber guard (i lack a lot of the flexibility) and the next day my bad knee had a nagging pain all day so I decided not to try and add it to my game.
