Why lie? ( long )

Well today at BJJ class a guy came up to the ring and started talking about the grappling class and said he had never done it before so i started helping him out by showing him guards and positions and like 3 submissions. So i asked if he wanted to lightly roll and said yes. The first few times we rolled i was just doing defense to let him try to figure out how to sweep and certain stuff. Then he asked if i wanted to go 100% and i said sure. So we started rolling and out of no where he was sweeping and pulling moves i didnt show him yet he tried to hide that he knew what he was doing. I beat him but i want to know if this has happend to anyone else? It was obvious he had some experience but idk why he lied. He said hes gonna start going to our grappling classes and when he does im gonna flat out ask him lol to see what he says. Anyone have any ideas why he would lie?

probably scouting out the gym... maybe looking to see what kind of atmosphere/skill levels are there?..... or he could just be a jackass

from some of the techniques i doubt it but it may be possible, some of the other guys started talking to me about him asking where he trained before. So i dont know but it seemed pretty obvious he has had some training

A lot of guys do this to scout out gyms for themself or for the gym they train at.

But seriously if i was teaching some kid moves becaue he was new and asked me and i was kind enough to show him everything, And then out of no where he does shit that you have not taught him its almost a spit in the face

Because that Fucker knew shit from the beginning and played it off as if he was a beginner. Trying to make himself seem better then he is.

I dunno.. Maybe he is setting himself up to Sandbag at a tourny coming up, and he thinks going into a gym and lying about his experience will make him feel like he's not sandbagging..

To me it's fucking stupid.. but hey.. what ever wets your willie..
