Last TUF episode (spoiler inside)

For those who saw the last TUF episode,

Ben had Tommy in a wicked armbar and Tommy didn't tap -- it looked like his arm was pretty bent too but later he said he didn't feel anything popping/cracking so he didnt tap. Just wondering how you would finish someone like this. It kind of reminds me of Shogun vs Randleman where Shogun had a kneebar and Kevin didnt tap and finally Shogun put the foot under his armpit to get it to bend more. Can this be done with an arm too - put the guys wrist under your armpit and grip both hands behind his elbow joint?

I've had it happen to me before. I usually switch to the triangle, or another submission, but this one guy at Battle at the Beach this year tried to escape when I went to give him and out with the triangle, and he simply refused to tap, so after asking the ref if she could stop it, and getting the reply "he's an adult, I can't do anything.", I broke his arm really bad.

Hmm, I'm just wondering why Ben was unable to finish the arm. It looked like he was doing everything right...maybe he didn't raise his hips enough? When I'm rolling we always tap really early so I'm not sure I really know how to finish after watching that fight

Ben (great name btw) was sick when he fought. Really sick, as he mentioned in some interviews later. Had it been in any other format, he would not have fought that day.

He said he transitioned to the triangle and not finishing that was due to his strength having been drained.

You got to give Speers some credit....His strength and toughness got him through the armbar....

I don't know. Could be stupidity... One of the guys in the semis will pull out. Maybe his arm is hurt after all?

But I agree that he is a tough guy and tough fight.

If you're competing as a pro, your only option is to break his arm, unfortunately. If the guy refuses to tap, it would be his own fault for his injuries, imho...

Some guys have very flexible joints. I know this one guy who never taps on armbar and it seems like it doesnt even hurt him.

Ben should have just broke that shit. He didn't hip in hard enough, and then the angle wasn't right after he hesitated.

Yeah, but you don't usually think a guy won't tap when the armbar is that deep. I'm glad guys don't hip in hard every freaking time. We'd end up with a lot more broken arms. I think Tommy was kind of taking advantage of Ben's inherent want to not break his arm. It was pretty irresponsible if you ask me.
