who teaches at the Irvine school? I last heard Kyra, Marcio, and Carlos Jr. were all there. If so, I would not doubt how awesome it is.

I train at Soca BJJ here in Long Island, NY with 4th degree GB black belt Alexandre "Soca" Freitas. Last week we had a seminar with GB 4th degree black belt Daniel Gracie. The environment is phenomenal and I have improved exponentially, particularly since I have been taking privates with Soca. The Gracie Barra lineage is top notch. Just looking at a group picture from the year 2000 Soca has at the academy I was in awe. The list of quality black belts in that particular picture is insane: Soca, Soneca, Gordo, Roleta, Renzo, Ryan Gracie Nino Schembri, Draculino just to name a few.

You almost always have to pay in some way to become an affiliate school.

There are advantages and disadvantages to it. If you are part of the right affiliation, I think it's usually an overall good idea.

I think it's free for 1 week, after that you have to pay normal mat fees. I'm sure it depends on the school in a lot of cases though.
