Who trains at a Gracie Barra??

My academy just became a Gracie Barra and it sounds like it's a great thing. I mean it's basically the same exact school (same instructors etc) the only difference being that now I can go train at any other Gracie Barra for free. Also when other GB students are in my area they will come down to roll so I will get to train with more people.

The other great thing is that you have to have at least one seminar at your school with a GB black belt (of which GSP is now on that list Yeaaa boyyyyyy!!!) so I cant wait to see who they bring in!!! There is crazy good amount GB black belts out there!!!

The only thing is that I have to now compete as a Gracie Barra student and wear one of their gi's (but they are bad ass so I dont care about that)

From both a business standpoint and from a student standpoint I think its a great move, but I was wondering who here trains at a Gracie Barra affiliate and what they think of it?

I train at Gracie Barra in Irvine. It is the best place I have ever trained in my life. The students have great attitudes. The instructors are top notch. I like the atmosphere. I have improved more here than anywhere I have trained. I can't say enough good things about the instructors. They are really good.

The only downsides are that the classes can be large sometimes and I think they promote people too fast.

But, that is life. Nothing is perfect. The good significantly outweighs the bad.

Is it an affiliate or??

The belt promotion thing is just your school, nothing is going to change at my academy as far as that goes. My instructors don't give easy belts.

If I am ever out in Irvine I will def come check you guys out......for FREE! =)

I'm not officially at a Gracie Barra school...but spent about 3 weeks at one this summer in Brazil. Definitely the best training experience of my life. Amazing guys and the atmosphere was second to none.

I train at a Renzo Gracie affiliate and we get many of the same perks the Gracie Barra students get. Renzo comes from a Gracie Barra lineage. Our main instructor regularly sends his top belts to Gracie Barra in Rio to work on their game, especially when they have an MMA fight coming up.

Forget the business aspect of it. It's a fantastic lineage, usually top notch instruction and they created a real strong team first attitude as a standard for their schools.

PM me, I mean I know the answer but I don't know if it would be cool to discuss their business practices in an open forum.

If that sounds ridiculous let me know and I will post it, but Id rather be safe than sorry.

welcome to the team. Gracie Barra is like one big family. no matter where you go to train your always welcome. when you get a chance go train at a true GB school not an affiliate, one that had been GB since day one and will be for life. it will change you for the better. the seminars are awsome, we just had one with Fabio Coasta. he was here all week . promotions are not handed out too freely at my school, but some of the afiliaets here are a joke. i hope you will enjoy being part of the family. good luck and train hard.
