I tore my ACL and meniscus in March, had surgery on june 20th and am out of judo until January at the earliest. I have spent the last 2 days reading this thread from the first post. Thanks - it was cathartic. I have trouble even watching class right now. Anybody come back well from an ACL reconstruction?

it takes some intense rehabbing for someone to come back great from ACL injuries.

But it will never be the way it was.

Kind of what I expected to hear - It's just a great hobby for me, though, nothing competitive. Great stress relief. I didn't even start judo until I hit 30 - only been doing it for about 4 years. I know the standing will be scary, but I'm better at newaza anyway. I tore my other knee up about 15 years ago and didn't have much trouble with it from judo, so I hope I can get back to my normal mediocrity.

I have a guy that i train with that had it done and he still cuts up and bike tire in and uses it as a brace for standing... he is about 6 months out of his surgery and a fairly larger man. According to him it feel better than before he had the surgery

Oh no, torn ACL?? That is nasty. I feel kinda bad for moaning about my tennis elbow problem throughout the thread.

All the best with it, remember too, your day to day life is more important than guys in white pajamas throwing each other around, don't jeopardise that for the sake of a sport!!

Thanks, Happy Boy. I think the day to day life view is the one my wife takes. She isn't totally sold on the idea of me getting back in the dojo sometime early next year. But you know how some days you just don't want to go to Judo and you make yourself anyway and then you feel great - really tired, but GREAT afterwards? I really miss that feeling. But, honestly, the thought of tai otoshi scares the crap out of me right now. Long road ahead.
