^yeah well a month or two ago when I was working on my ouchi gari, this guy who weighs about 140 pounds would tani otoshi me everytime I did it. It was damn right embarassing, cause I hd just got my green after wrecking house at this tournament and this orange belt (he turned green like shortly after I did) who I outweighed by like 100 pounds was owning me everytime I did ouchi. We would do the red and white drill, and I would beat a blue belt or two, and beat mostly everyone, then he would just wreck me when I did ouchi lol. Luckily I found a game I liked right after green, since the tournament wins that got me my green were the first ign of light for me after being in a slump my entire time as an orange.
Today I was pumped to go to judo though. I had been all weekend, and I watch some of dream 3 and eat dinner at 4:30 (judo starts at 8 and goes to ten) so I would be ready to go train. I take a nap at 5 and wake up at 9:15. I was furious!!!!!!!!! I woke up and just went nuts, so I grabbed my moms car keys, my gi and stuff, book it out with shorts and a t-shirt, no socks just shoes lol that aren't even on. Speed down to judo. I got a good half an hour in, two randori rounds, and some crash mat throwing. I'm mad that I missed today but had I missed the whole thing, tomorrow would be the worst day. If I don't do judo sometimes, I just feel horrible. Shitty mood, don't pay attention in class, etc. I don't know if it's my hormones or something, but if I don't do judo I'm stressed out, and really pissy. Luckily I went tonight though

Ha ha, that happened me with a comp once, and then after being late and having my name called over the loud speaker when I arrived, I rushed on and my unwarmed up, my first match went the distance and I won by a crappy yuko. However, the exersion on my warm up wrecked me though and I promptly got canned in the 2nd fight. Horrible, the worst morning.
Good stuff you made it there and got some in, good dedication.

hi guys, what's up?
As some of you know, i don't train Judo, i train BJJ, but i am making a conscious effort to improve my standing game.
While I can perform a couple of throws that i learnt from JJJ adequately (against a compliant uke), I don't know how to set them up, i normally wait until the other guy goes to throw and try to counter, like in class last night, my opponent tried to foot sweep me and i rotated and hit the most perfect Uchi Mata of my life, he ended up underneath me and i could drop straight down to Knee On Belly and finish him with a collar choke.
The main throws i know are O Goshi, Osoto Gari, Ko Soto Gari, Ouchi Gari, Tai Otoshi, Seoi Nage, Sumi Gaeshi, Tomoe Nage, and Koshi Garuma.
Now down to my my question, i need to know what throws work well in combination, and how to upset my opponents balance to successfully throw my resisting opponent and basically how to set up a good thow or combination.

His tai-o is sick, but the one thrown by my female teamate is straight up MURDER on me. This girl can get a hell of a wind up on the trailing leg. Brutal.

i bet my ouchi is worse than yours ever was, we learnt it where you reep the leg and push the guys chest at the same time, so when he lands you can "karate chop" his thighs and then strike him in the groin about 10 times... it makes me ROFL just thinking about it.

With that toolbox of throws, you could set up a good number of combos. From Ouchi Gari alone, you've got:
Ouchi -> Seoi
Ouchi -> Kouchi (and vice versa)
Ouchi -> Tai-O
Ouchi -> Osoto
As for breaking balance and setting up throws, you might want to read the following articles on kuzushi (as I'm not an expert on judo, just someone who does judo from time to time):

O-uchi is often used as a set up for other throws, but the thing to remember is to always actually try and get a score from the initial throw in a combo before using the 2 throw of the combo. Ive canned a lot of opponents from this, they do a really weak o-uchi or ko-uchi as a set up, but they dont really go for anything with the initial throw and as such it leaves them very vulnerable to a counter. But yeah, o-uchi and ko-uchi are akin to the jab in boxing.

i find it hard to even attempt ouchi in BJJ, because of the hunched stance, i normally get my sleeve and lapel grip and yank down really hard to make em step forward, even then i can only get shallow entry so instead it ends up as more of a foot sweep, how do you get the initial throw to be a big enough threat to off-balance them, how do you get them into an upright stance to make it effective?

BJJ'ers are kinda notorious for that, but you can get anyone to stand up. The one I like to do is rough but it works. If they are hunched over, take your standard sleeve and lapel grip and take back steps snapping downward with each one. Do these hard and severe, really jolt them, 3 or 4 times in quick succession snapping downwards hard. Now, some players will go down onto their front from the strain, happy days if they do, a penalty in judo and back control in BJJ. For those that dont, the general reaction is to try and force their body upwards when you are doing this, so as soon as you feel the upward resistance, snap your arms high and upwards instead of down as you snap back and have will have them bolt upright infront of you and wide open for a throw. Do this a few times and Ill guarantee you they will start to stand up, the strain on their legs, lower back and back of the neck from resisting this is brutal.
