There is more than one reason that making an effort to 1) Stay standing and 2) Land on your opponent if you're doing a makikomi throw... this happens to be one of them.

Pretty effective, especially considering that most muggers don't know how to break fall. Most throws won't hurt the judoka though, except maybe some sutemi waza if there is glass on the floor... You might have gotten that impression from watching competition footage where you end up in crazy positions just to get the ippon, thats not really something you need to worry about when going against someone who doesn't have Judo skill.

Tapped a black belt with a kimura during Newaza . I also got a black eye from another black belt and saved by the bell whilst in some kinda horrible GI choke tho. Overall it was a superb night tho. We usually do 80% Standup on a wednesday and mostly groundwork on a Friday but we had a different coach in tonight and it was 50/50 which is fun. I've been there since late February and I've been getting told that im doing really well, especially on the ground, which is really making me try my best and push myself past my limits whilst the other red belts go for water or complain of injurys. I'v lifted weights for a while as well but im starting to see much better results since i've dropped around 20ib. Really enjoying my judo right now.

Had a great night as well. Started off the class working on Uchi Makikomi and I am really starting to like it. Afterward we did some Randori and I almost caught a Nidan with a deashi barai. A little more kuzushi and I would have had it.

Coming up on my one year in August and couldn't be happier.

Are they threatening to unsticky this post? 64 pages long, with daily use? That's silly. It has the most posts of any of the stickied posts, and pulling it would just be dumb.
