It is simply a matter of training styles, not the art itself. I roll with purple belts and do just fine. I have no issues with blue belts. Brown belts are going to give me a hard time. I am not sure why you would be surprised about the gap, however. The gap is just as large going the opposite direction. It's been said over and over, but I'll give it one more shot... the difference between Judo and BJJ is simply the method in which you train. The techniques are all the same, the focus, however, is generally different.

Read the opening few posts of this thread dude, this exact sentiment is something we expressly wanted to avoid.

Naw man, I don't want to turn this into a Judo V Bjj threat at all and I am sorry if it came across that way. I love Judo, I just kinda thought thata good Judo black belt was as good on teh ground as a BJJ expert and I am shocked that a Judo black is only regarded as teh equal of a blue.

Ugh. How does that qualify as "sweet?"

From a technical standpoint it was pretty blah. Not having your head on the same side you're reaping is only thing, but he didn't even have an overhook from which he could pull down... which is obvious by the leg he was attacking flying up through the air. I don't see any effort on his part to put any weight on the leg he was supposed to be reaping, quite the opposite, actually.

With technical aspects tossed aside and looking at it from a purely "Did it work?" standpoint, it was just as bad. No only did he not take the other guy down, he got planted on his face and almost gave up his back in the process.

Sorry, I don't see anything "sweet" about it. Always nice to see people using Judo techniques in MMA, but just because they use them doesn't automatically make it fantastic.

The osoto otoshi (gari) gari above, on the other hand, was pretty cool to watch.

Arrived at my new duty station (I'm in the military) and NO JUDO FOR 100's of miles! At least I'm halfway through my coaching certification so maybe I can start a rec club with some of the guys I'm stationed with, at least that way I'll get some

I need to get sent back to my old unit for some training so I can visit my old club.
