You can see the Shinohara ippon very well from this angle. The sad part was, it was such a beautifully executed technique that it is a shame that he didn't get credit for it.

Thats what bugged me too about the Shinohara incident, obviously Im biased as he is my favourite player but it was such a great move and also quite a forte of his against big Euros, so it was a shame that he didnt get to win his gold with it. Very rare big guys do that throw.

Good stuff on the comps. Obviously some good players here.

Thetequilaman, did you do the skinamis to get the belt in Japan? I had to do those, 8am start on sunday mornings and I had to set off at 6 to get there on time, bloody hated doing them but they were all so scared of the big gaijin that they were easy, won my first 16 of them before I lost one via exhaustion. Good times.

1st tourny I went 4-0 for 1st place. -66lbs..(pounds not kilos) in wh/ye/or. Threw with koshiguruma for ippons or to osaekomi.

Went to a couple Downriver judo tournies years ago when I was a kid.(in Mich) Nice medals there and good tournies.
I only met 3 dicks at judo tournaments, and one of those was a ref. Most of the time its a good atmosphere. To be honest, the dicks are often from what Ive heard beginners who havent had the tar beaten out of them yet.

I was seated on deck at the US Open(no noob there) beside a Washington fella and I said something friendly and he turned to me and said something like, 'I don't FUCKING talk to my opponents b4 I fight them', looking like he was going to take a shot.LOL. I know he said the f word for sure. Just kinda blew me away coming from another judoka and being a visitor at that. That was the shittiest I've been thru.

Another was at a tourny where the fella seemed to be muay thai kicking my legs for a footsweep. He was penalised cheap tho. After the fight I said he has 'very hard footsweeps' very complimentary and he said in a 'fighting' way ' I would like to have kicked your legs off'. LOL

Beat them both so no real harm done.

tsukinamis? You mean the little "matches" you do that are informal the day of the belt test?

Yeah, but we didn't have 16, we had 5-6. I won all except I lost one to the smallest kid there, a little 16 year old. He choked me out.

Or are you talking about the "king of the mountain" thing they do? We didn't do king of the mountain at my belt test.

Yeah, thats an element of it unfortunately, saw one fight break out on a warm up mat before over these morons bumping into each other before they went on, was so pathetic. Both were crappy players too, they got nowhere, all aggression and no skill back up.

Mine werent just on the belt day, had to go to them every weekend for about a month to build up points, and when you had accumulated enough they let you go to a nage-no-kata seminar, and then you got invited to the shodan grading where they did that winner stays on thing which nearly killed me. Was your all in one day?
