Yep, them to the right and you to the left in a kind of clockwise motion for the right handed one, and as they react the other way launch it. Pull hard on the right hand, the more aggressively you pull em to the right the harder they'll resist the other way as they'll feel an attack coming, and thats when you launch it.
Inoue doesnt always do the static one he got famous for, the 2000 final one against Gill is one he doesnt do that often, but even then it wasnt a full on straight one. He was getting Gill to react to Gill's right by twitching the o-uchi constantly and then he second guessed him and boom, got a slight reaction to the right and launchedit, so it looks like he nailed a static but he got some reaction to set it up. Jeon was one dude who could launch a crazy strong static one. Dont know who it was against but in his instructional he ippons some dude who was crouched so far down that an uchimata looked impossible, but the kazushi was so strong and high that he nailed it.

Man I recently felt my functional strength getting worse. I think I might try lifting again. I haven't done it seriously since grade 9 haha. The thing is like I can't really do cleans or any squats or anything cause of my knee. But what can I do to get me ready for nationals? I think I might get a bungie cord and do like uchi komi or something?

Is it lack of strength on the drive or in the grip? From drive or "dig" as we used to call it, I mean when you get a throw hooked in like an osoto, and then its a case of just getting enough force to finish it. This is commonly thought to be functional strength or effective strength for judo, and from what I know, there arent many ways to remedy this. 3 man uchikomi is a good one, where the 3rd guy acts as heavy resistance, or basically just doing a tonne more hard randori against heavy guys and constantly getting into position to force some of the power throws to finish. Nailing perfect throws against good opponents is hard, so dont think your judo is bad if you have to force-finish them, it builds power, endurance and overall technique when you get a big driving through working for you.
If its grip strength, "farmer walks" mate!! Two of the heaviest dumbells you can lift and walk a circuit with them. Will turn your grip to iron.
If overall you just felt weaker, could be just overtraining or lack of good energy from your diet.
I wouldn't jump into weightlifting, extra muscle looks good but hurts your cardio and stamina. Better just to work harder in training and dont take any rounds off by pairing off with a whitey to beat him up for 4 minutes!! I used to lift for 2 hours before every judo session as a beginner, and my judo was going nowhere because as soon as I met someone I couldnt muscle around, I was done. Being buffed up like that makes you think you can manhandle anyone, rude awakening at my first big contest out of college!!

Hey guy, this is directly from my training log in the S&P subforum.
The thread is called "Korean Log"
Stop in and say whats up to a fellow Judo Player.
2008 Seattle Dojo Annual Judo Tournament 3rd Place (5/17/08)
Beat two guys with Ippon within the first 20 seconds
The other was a green belt [I'm white], I sunk in a triangle but he lifted me and we were stood up. We went the whole round, He won with a Wazari. Bummer, but quiznos has $5 subs, haha.

That's exactly it. It's lacking the power for a strong finish. I get osoto hooked in and I get pressure on my knee and I try to hop and finish or drive forward and finish, but it just doesn't happen or they step over. Another one is doing a tai otoshi and getting stuck in the finishing position. It's really bugging me, I think I'm just stressing like crazy about J.nationals. I can't help it though . I really think this knee business is gonna make me weaker for the competition, unless I manage to train it off which won't happen

strongman stuff, get a mate
flip tires, slegdehehammer, some sort of buggy and drag him + the buggy around
wayyy better then the gym, or jsut have one class dedicated to judo specific strength
all the stuff you do for warmup but more, shrimps, seals, mopeds
Belt/rope climbing across the floor= arms/grips training, on your back with yourh head in the direction you are going, on your stomach in the direction you are going, back with feet i nthe direction you are going
Run with your uki in a kataguruma liftdo squats, I also have a bad knee but you will get more and more down if you start it.
As rehab for my knee I did this thing were you lay on your back and the uki puts his shoulders on the bottom of your feet, you then bend them down slowly and push upwards

waht is your specific problem? I have pretty much "trained" away the "stop training" pain, I had a busted meniscus and tears in the ACL/MCL or whatever they are called, that I didn't treat, so my problem was scartissue that hidnerd movement/caused pain and easily inflammed knee
I built up strength in my knee to compensate

Make sure you have the driving direction right. Lots of people I see hook in for a big throw and then when they drive, they dont drive towards the weakest balance area. That could be why you arent getting osoto for example, its a really common mistake, instead of driving to their back corner I see a lot of people drive straight on, into a strong balance area, and often time end up getting counter osoto'd from there.
Getting stuck in tai-otoshi usually comes from not enough hand twisting to break the balance. Really pull their body out over their centre before placing your feet.
After these minor adjustments, if you still are finding it hard to finish, it could be lack of power in the drive. What they say here is always try and fix technique first.

They think I have a torn pcl so it's not that bad, especially now, since I sarted doing groundwork again. Problem is I hurt it every class, and I feel alot of pressure on it during hard randori. I'm missing out on competeing in amcans in buffalo cause of this, but there's not way I'm not competing in provincials and junior nationals. So since I can't see the orthapedic surgeon until the 29th, so we'll see if it;s a tear. Your knee was fucked though, acl and mcl tear, jesus. That's like career ending isn't it?
