Ok, I'll take your word for it because like I said, I am a clueless newbie. Humor for a second though: Wouldn't applying a lot of downward force using a lot of your body weight break the hold on the elbow?

not if you secure it correctly, but it will cause you to break the guys wrist... which is why this move probably won't be legal for much longer. it's responsible for a lot of injuries, and very popular amongst brazilian black belts.

I couldn't tell from the vid, but is he basically doing a modified gooseneck? If so I understand why that last guy cried out in pain. Ouch.

Well it depends on which way the guys wrist collapses, most peoples wrist bends backwards, mine for some reason always bends forwards when this wrist lock is applied.

I have had both of my wrists stuffed up from this wrist lock, we had one guy in class wrecking everyone with it until the instructor banned him from it... He applied it so quickly that crying out in pain was quicker than tapping.

Nice! I have seen that type of wrist lock, except applied from guard. Not ness a high percentage move, but a cool move to have in your bag of tricks!

I'm with you, in that my wrist goes forward as well with this lock...(well at least when we practice it)

Wristlocks are no joke...you've got no time from when they're slapped on until your wrist feels like it's about to explode. We were working on them just last week, and just practicing them was painful....and even then you knew it was coming. Applied when your opponent is unprepared, could get ugly for him. Still a pretty cool weapon to have in the arsenal though.

Learned that as a self defense technique at white belt from standing. I had always wondered if that was legal in sport bjj... but now, oh the opportunities!

it's an inverted gooseneck, you're hand bends the other way, and because of the grip you have when he puts it on, it's pretty difficult to avoid if the guys is good
