Triangle Choke on small neck?

I was rolling today with a small kid and I got a triangle choke (legs) on but couldn't get it tight enough. The way I had it on always chokes guys my size but not this kid. I had my hips up, his arm across, squeezing together, foot thats under knee was up, pulling head down, and his shoulder/arm in his throat. It's every thing I've been taught but it still didn't work. I was going to ask my coach but it was time up and I'm not coming back until after spring break so I'm asking here if anyone has similar problems with small people and what tricks to try and lock it on tight.
Also I was straight with him opposed to being angled or slightly perpendicular to him.

You dont want to be straight on. Work with your instrucotr or an advanced partner on your angles and leg placement. I haven't run into anyone who is immune to the triangle.

It can definitely be harder on smaller people. If I'm screwing around with my girlfriend and I put her in a triangle (she doesn't mind this stuff, I swear) I have to hook my knee halfway up my shin to get it to choke. Of course, she's smaller than any guy you're likely to roll with, but you get the point. There's definitely a way to do it, but you'll have to play with it a bit. Scooting out diagonally (head away from trapped arm side) should help.

there is no such thing as a neck too small... make sure his arm is across your chest, and your ankle is locked right behind your knee... pull his head down while squeezing.

if that doesn't work, just yank his arm into an armbar

some guys are incredibly hard to sub with chokes... you'll have to work around and find other subs to get em with sometimes too.
