they are no longer effective. Neither are armbars or omoplatas. Guillotine and rear naked are also outdated. As a matter of fact, the only submission that works anymore is the gogoplata.

this man knows what he is talking about, in fact i was just informed that the armbar and triangle from the guard are no longer effective and are no longer taught in REAL schools. REAL schools now focus on the latest gogoplata entry in their beginner curriculum. So if you dont know atleast 5-6 different setups for a gogo and your above a 1 stripe white, you need to look elsewhere!!!

If you're talking about the obvious triangle chokes setups that every white belt knows better than to fall for
- leaving head down
- leaving one arm above and below legs
- winding a arm too far up
- letting someone pull one wrist up and one down
You could say they could be extinct or no longer effective, but there's a ton of other ways to SET UP the triangle isn't

Setups might go obsolete and change, but submissions are here to stay, unless we stop needing carotid arteries or grow another arm or leg or w/e.....

I'd say from the position that one applies a triangle, a RNC probably isn't a very intelligent thing to go for. But what do I know, maybe someone should stick their head inside one and judge for themselves.

I'm a catch guy and I even have to say that triangles are weapons of mass destruction.

Now a-days people know more counters and escapes, that's all
