Throws & Takedowns for BJJ
Hey guys, i've been looking at some Judo throws to help with my bjj standing game.
I swear half the throws look the same but with tiny differences. Anyways what are the best high % throws people incorporate from judo to their bjj game.
uchi mata? Haraigoshi?
do foot sweeps work?
This is my list of takedown and throws that i think would work for gi. I'm still a beginner so i'm not sure if they work or not, any advice is great thanks.
Single Leg
Double Leg
Uchimata
Firemans carry
• Osatogari
• Hanimakikomi
• Koshiguruma
• Haraigoshi
• Ouchigarai
• Taiotoshi
• Ryu Throw (streetfighter, sacrifice throw...roll into mount or something)
http://www.judoinfo.com/gokyo1.htm
this site has vids of the 40 traditional judo throws, this is where i got some of my list.

I think foot sweeps would work with gi. Dont see how it would without a gi.

of course they work
Different grips that is all
trips/sweeps from clinch are common from every fighter rewgardless if they have a judo background or not
What we haven't seen yet is sacrifice throws
Sacrifice throws should work well enough in BJJ I assume (no real BJJ experience) , if they stuff it jsut pull guard

Some wrestlers are EXCELLENT with footsweeps even at the Olympic level. Works fine without gi.
I don't think there is much difference between what throws work in judo competition and what works in BJJ competition. The positions and grips are the same, it's just that not all BJJ competitors have practised throws at the level required to make it work against skilled opposition.
Jacare has a really nice kouchi-anklepick combination and seoinage, for example.

This is the shit. And most people will fall for it relatively easily. If they don't get tossed you have control of one wrist and can work for submissions or just pop back up.

Foot sweep are excellent without a gi.
You can use them from the thai clinch, from a wrestler's clinch, over unders, etc.
You just get them moving in one direction until they start to resist, and then sweep the foot out on the side they AREN'T resisting too, while suddenly torquing the body INTO the resistance.

My grappling staple is high-elevation double legs. I shoot them from a distance, from the clinch, I shoot singles to set up doubles, if they sprawl, I do a fireman's carry. If I can't shoot a regular double, I shoot a very low double (like, to their shin). Sometimes I may shoot a double, but take their back instead of taking them down.
My suggestion is to get good at one or two takedowns and make them your "go-to" moves. I've taken judo and I'm very comfortable doing a lot of their throws, but I find myself having almost too many options to choose from, to decide in the midst of a match. If I cannot shoot a double, or if I train something else, that's fine. But a double leg is pretty much my bread and butter.
