i use it if they try to counter the o ouchi gari by taking a step forward (not the foot you try to sweep) and taking the weight of the other foot. then you just tai otoshi the foot you didnt target with o ouchi gari. this mostly works when you're attacking alot and the opponant starts to scramble.

[edit]i guess it would be more of a Ashi Guruma instead of tai otoshi. havnt done judo in a few years and trying to remember what i would do. lol

could you describe this more in detail?
Sure. I've been experimenting with this one lately and it works pretty well.

The idea is to start with sasae to get their weight onto one foot. Then you switch your foot and hop into tai otoshi for a more powerful finish.

For example, I start with a standard right handed grip. I step around for sasae using my left foot to trip them. This unbalances their weight over that foot (their right foot). Then, since they are already unbalanced, I jump in for tai otoshi by switching my feet and turning my back. Then you just drop your body weight and pull for the finish.

So you attack the same foot each time. Start with sasae to get them going, and finish with tai otoshi for extra power and better control for an ippon (if you are doing judo).

let me tell you, it works. if you try for the uchi mata and it fails go into tai otoshi or hari goshi or hanay or hani gosh. but i do uchi mata and if i know i cant throw them i drop down into tai otshi and take out the leg thats holding him up. sometimes i just do uchi mata but easy like a fake so i can go into tai o toshi. practice it it works. i know that hidehiko used it alot! in the olympics and in MMA

Ouchigari to set up either osotogari (competion style not traditional) or harai goshi.
Osotogari to set up sasae tsurikomi ashi.
Okuriashibarai to set up drop seoinage.

what techniques can you already do? start your combinations from there.

you mention osoto, ouchi, ogoshi, makikomi, seoi

I would recommend combinations that work on timing, and that allow you to do A or B depending on your opponent. This way you will develop a reliable throw.

I don't know your body shape, but regardless osoto, ouchi, and seoi are good starters. ogoshi is limited, and makikomi gives you bad habits.

practice osoto/ouchi combos. both as a one after other succession, and as an either/or fake. mix in seoi and you'll have a multidirectional throwing ability that once you began the attack will be unstoppable. even with basic tecniques.

as a Right handed
Ko uchi gari To Harai Goshi
Ko uchi gari To Seoi Nage
Uchimata to Ashi Guruma
Hiza Guruma to O Soto Gari To Harai Goshi
Seoi Nage to Tama Guruma (drop kataguruma)

as a Left Grip
Uchimata to tai otoshi
O uchi gari to Hikkikomi Gaeshi with hikkikomi grip

My personal favourites are

- Osoto Gari (with the belt grip) to Sumi Gaeshi/Harai Goshi/Kharbarelli depending on how they react
- Osoto Gari into Hiza Guruma
- Sode into Osoto Gari
- Sode into Kouchi Makikomi
- Ouchi Gari into Ashi Uchi Mata

Well timing of course

bodytype: about 6'2 270-ish (probably 285 after the holidays ): short legs broad shoulder

you would imagine that such a body type regardless of my height (tallest in Dojo) would make me a good guy for Seio but I have a very shitty knee and have the bad habit of always doing seio as a drop seio

Makikomi= bad habits what do you mean? that I have bruised my mates ribs twice now?

on a sidenot been having some succes lately in randori with two different combos one basic:
Kouchi/ouchi into kibushi gaeshi/Kuchiki Taoshi

and a kinda fake slow deashibarai into a Sukui Nage
