His training log is a thing to behold.
And yeah Q, he threw physics at me once in a thread and I had a minor seizure just trying to understand it. My head still hurts.

Just fake understanding. Works for me all the time.
If he's gotta job and not gettin paid to know this stuff....
Log nothing. I think if I read it all I would know more than my 25 years. I'm gonna have to bury him with a seoi to feel smart again.

Thread resurrection.
I also want to pseudo-hijack the thread (since I can't start my own for a few more weeks). I saw a thread on another forum: "The Grappler's Toolbox". The OP posed the question: "Which moves do you consider the core to any grappler's aresenal? Which submissions/techniques do you consider indispensable?"
The thread sucked, only one poster gave a decent answer:
- Sprawl
- Mount Escape
- 1 Half-Guard sweep
- 1 Guard sweep
- RNC
- Guillotine
- Kimura
Let's see if we can do better. I might consider adding armbar. They're just always there.

In addition, I feel every grappler should know the double leg, single leg, and koshi guruma takedowns. I feel these three movements forms the basis for learning most other takedowns. Also it is paramount to know good posture in both the guard and standing. Good posture while standing will make most 10x harder to shoot on, 10x easter to shoot, and improve overall balance evenw while in the guard (many of the same principles apply).

Very cool, Frodo. What would you suggest for the sweeps up there?

Sweeps are my favorite part of grappling. It is very hard going from an inferior position like the guard to a superior position like mount or side control. You are fighting gravity as well as your opponent. Sweeps are like "turning the tables." Super sweet.
I think the basic scissor sweep, hook sweep, and pendulum sweep should eventually be learned first. The hip bump is another basic sweep which should be understood. Many other sweeps end up being very similar motion as many throw, except that they are in different situations and require very different setups. These make all the difference though, and are the reason you have to practice and thing of them separately.

Agreed Frodo.
Know how to shoot for a takedown (single, double, firemans, whatever).
Know how to turn for a throw (koshi guruma, hip throw, shoulder throw, something).
