However...I do wonder, if Saku's base wasn't catch wrestling derived pro-wrestling...would he be the same saku? I don't know, I'll have to think about it.

Anyway.

See you on the far side.
Honestly I think Saku's grappling background is part what made him so formidable. He was awkward, he had unsual setups and transitions. That's something I don't think he wouldn't have developed if he was a BJJ traditionalist. And I think that's why BJJ guys had trouble dealing with him in part; they're used to dealing with grapplers who think like BJJ players, but Sakuraba didn't think like a BJJ player, he thought like a pro wrestler, so he did shit that they didn't see coming.

For tapes I highly reccomened:

WAR Catch Wrestling by Bill Robinson
The Fujiwara instrucitonals
Eriks Killer Leg Locks and Killer Chicken Wings Series
Eriks Neck breaker
Tony C's Lost Art of Hooking

And Attacking the Guard if you like :-)

Stick to it! Find a buddy that will travel the road with you as you pick stuff up off of tapes and try new things when everyone else has walked off the mat.

It will behard to find a good catch instructor but one thing that can really help your game is to work with an amateur wrestling coach.

Here are some great links fthat canhelp you find what you're looking for:

This webpage is dedicated to tho - a club locator page.

Grappling Techniques for Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Ultimate Fighting, and Wrestling - great resource page for the aspiring catch wrestler.

CSW Training Center Welcome To CSW Online - the man!

www.lockflow.com - Great technique site with some great catch stuff.

Don't let anyone dissuade you from what you want to do. Catch is an awesome art and capable of giving you all the tools necessary to submit, nay, DESTROY anyone!

Heh, Barnettu-san. I'm not even going to bother bugging him for his opinions on catch, anyone who saw that Underground thread where he argued with Eddie Bravo will see his arguments laid out nice and neatly.

There's a potential for a very large flamewar if Josh shows up again. Little things like Jake Shannon (Josh's sponsor) being just as bad, if not worse than Tony, the fact that Paulson is a Machado BB, critique of catch techniques (even Bas in his DVD's calls uses catch wrestling as a synonym for stupid) and all that other stuff.

And while we're at it, Jake Shannon claiming the UWFi was real fights, when stuff like Gary Albright vs. Takada was obviously fake pro wrestling.

Having seen catch flamewars at Bullshido, I'm going to watch and see this thread explode.

Apparently that's what happens to all catch wrestling threads.

There's a lot of Mcdojo, there's bad bjj instructor and it's the same thing for Catch.

But there is something i cant stand. Some people didnt even tried it and make stupids, ignorants, close minded comments. Try it with a good instructor, compare and after that you will be able to make comments about it.

I have 4 of the dvd sets that Josh recommends including his attacking the guard DVD. Each one will add something to your game as a Catch wrestler. My favorite so far is W.A.R Catch Wrestling. But it depends on what your looking for. Catch Wrestling gyms are hard to come by still unlike BJJ. So DVD's are where a lot of people learn some of it from.

I havent been swept yet using any of the techniques on Josh's DVD. People have tried but it usually ends up with me passing their guard. It doesnt mean it's impossible though....

Watch Barnett vs Nog I or any Sakuraba vs. Gracie fight and tell me if catch wrestling is a joke.

No one mentions Barnett vs. Nog I without mentioning Barnett vs. Nog II.
