Sit-up Guard

yo guys, i was wondering how many guys in here play the sit up guard, maybe you have been watching too many Marcelo Garcia fights and love this position.

me personally, from the school i train at, there is a ton of judo blackbelts, me with no judo experiance and always giving away weight, i like to sit down and play open guard, (hate jumping to closed guard as it rarely works due to my weight differences), from the sit up guard depending on the position of my opponent, i fight for the arm drag to take his back or go to spider guard, if his leg is positioned in front of him, i go for upright de la riva sweep (or pe da pano sweep), if he goes to his knees i like to shoot in for a butterfly sweep, but i always keep my distance and remain very VERY vary that he does not grab my gi pants and spins around to pass my guard, to counter this i split my legs apart (flexibility is required in this) and break of the grip at his elbow.

so if any guys play sit up guard or butterfly guard whatever it is called, put your tips and tactics on this thread or explain why you play it or better post how you like to pass the sit up guard.

thanks guys

Omar

i always would rather have my back off the floor than be laying back, you get more leverage on sweeps and by leaning back it gives you space for getting underhooks etc

yep i love it... but with my knee jacked up its tough for me to rock up after a sweep into a dominate position..

So i have to use sweeps that land me in side control, or a beneficial position without having to do the technical sitting up. Where you fold you kneed under kneath you and push into the guy.

What does it matter if you loose the standing war when you are training? You say you have alotta judo BB play their game somewhat you will get thrown but you will learn,

jsut work from where ever you end up, you won't face much better guys when competing anyways

yea i agree, i dont want to sound like a dick but i think your making a retarded choice by playing the "but scoot" game. With so many judo blackbelts there, you can learn a ton and get good at takedowns. Your very lucky and seem to not be taking advantage of it

For the first 6 months of my training I was always on my back, flat. Now I'm concentrating on always being on one hip or sitting up in the open guard and finding that I'm landing sweeps all the time on account of it. I hate being flat on my back... unless I have rubber guard.

good point, but i know that i am never going to get good at judo my fingers are jacked up, my strength is my open guard game. for example in a tournament if i fight a judo BB and he takes me down i am down in points and losing the fight.

you have still made a great point though and i take into great consideration. but the buttscoot never does Marcelo Garcia (my hero) any harm.
