although work prevented me from actually visiting the place, meeting him, and training there, I would most certainly choose to train at Hollywood BJJ if I ever visited Los Angeles again.
thanks and good luck, bro

I'm married to a Korean and my son is half-Korean ... if that counts.

same goes for John Frankl, except he has a daughter.
FYI, his Korean language ability is as close to native as one can get ... which is far better than mine.
would be cool to make your acquaintance, some day.
oh, next time I visit Los Angeles, I hope to visit Hollywood BJJ and make your acquaintance, too, jlee14.
I'd love to learn the Shawn Williams guard: looks highly effective

I envy Frankl's Korean. I'm trying to learn rudimentary conversational Korean, and it's fairly difficult. I showed my wife a clip of Frankl teaching something in Korean, and she confirmed that he speaks it flawlessly.
Not only that, his BJJ is far, far better than mine. But that at least I can close the gap on. Also, I'm bigger. I'm planning to visit Korea later this year, and if I do, I may see if I can stop by Frankl's place once or twice to train.
Next time you visit LA send me a PM or drop by John Machados and we'll roll!

I met some guys from HBJJ during GQ in San Diego and competed against one of their guys. They were all really friendly and the guy I competed against won the division.
I also met Sean Patrick Flanery ( from Boondock Saints, for you guys whi know the movie) who is the other black belt and he was really nice as well. Sean looked familiar, but I just couldn't figure it out. I remembered later.
If I'm ever in LA I ll stop by to train. And I need ti avenge my loss. Haha

I trained there for a few months last year and its a great school. Shawn is a super nice guy and an excellent instructor. He teaches both Gi and No Gi. A bunch of tough training partners and a very friendly enviroment. Plus you they have Sean Flannery who is also a blackbelt and very good guy

i run my own school in the same GENERAL area, and if i had to name an instructor i'd want someone to train with besides me, it'd be shawn. not only because he's a great instructor and produces great guys, but the environment he creates is one that i feel develops the camaraderie necessary to have members return to the gym and continue to be excited to train.
