A Rock and a Hard Place

I started taking Privates at a local BJJ academy and while it was good in the beginning, after a while I started losing interest. A friend suggested I try a different school, so I took a few privates at a different school and I really enjoy what and how I am learning.

So here is my dilemma. I want start taking classes and the first school I was taking privates with has a better schedule and all the classes are taught by a world class instructor. The second school I am currently taking privates does not have a class schedule that will work for me.

Is it ok to take classes at one school at privates at a different school?

As long as the instructors are OK with it, just let it be known, don't be secretive about it.

It depends on the school. I have two experiences with this.

At one point I trained at a nogi school, a gi school, and an MMA school all at the same time. The MMA school didn't really know much about the gi school, the nogi and gi school were friendly and would cross train together, and the nogi and MMA school were run by guys who hated each other. The nogi & MMA instructors would talk endless crap about one another (as they both came from the same bjj instructor and went off in different directions), but they never cared that I trained with both of them so long as I didn't have a problem listening to them talk trash about one another.

Now I am in a different state and I train two days a week at a nogi school (that also trains mma just for me) that the instructor is roughly the same skill level as me and one day a week I go an hour away to train MMA at a former pro fighter's school. Both guys are very alright with me training at both places and encourage it (mainly as I live farther away from the MMA school that is more legit than the nogi school). However I do have a feeling that if I lived in the same town as the MMA school I would be expected to only go there (just a feeling I have).

I took privates at one school and attended the classes of another a few years back. I did this because I couldn't make the classes of one of the schools (where I was taking privates) but didn't want to leave, I had good a relationship with both instructors and let them know the deal and aside from the odd ribbing they were fine about it.

Tell them. If someone says no, then say "fuck you, say good bye to me $$"
If they don't opperate on money and ask you to leave, beg to stay with them, they're probably the real deal.

That would be something you would want to bring up to the instructors and explain your specific situation because I could see how some instructors would not be too keen on this.

Just tell both instructors, end of problem. Its your money and your training, as long as you are upfront and not trying to represent one gym over another in competition. You wont have any problems in my experience.
