rio or the states???????????

Hey Guys,
Need some help! I am a purple t from OZ and have been planning a bbj trip for a while now hoping to leave in april. Was planning to go to brazil and train but it seems all the guys i wanted to train with have all left and head to the states. Is brazil still the place to go on a training holiday or is the states now the place to go...??? Any thoughts IS it still cheaper to train in rio if you included accom and the like ?? Was planning to train at barra or btt under sperry . Any ideas for where and who to train with ??????????

I'd still go with Brazil. This is the one I've been looking at. Brasa.

They only do 2 "camps" a year and one is in April. It's 2 weeks long or so for the camp. I know someone that went and they said it's incredible.

I would think there are a ton of INCREDIBLE instructors in the US.

However, I would think Brazil is cheaper, and you can still find top notch instructoers there.

I think Robert Drysdale has some type of training holiday program. You have to check his homepage. Also, if you search this site, I think stuff has been posted about it before.

A ticket from ATL to Rio is 1250 dollars. Yikes.

I was in Rio for 3 months in 2006. While almost all the big names in jiu jitsu live in America, the training you get is different. Every day you can train for hours, with many black belts. I sure there are some clubs and competitors in America that can rival Brazil, but if you're serious about jiu jitsu I believe it's a necessary trip.

I've been to Thailand, England, Holland, Cuba (among other places), and I felt Rio was the worst from a tourist's perspective. It's not very safe or affordable, and the nightlife leaves something to be desired. From an aesthetic point of view it's stunning though. I actually liked Sao Paulo a lot more. Waaay more variety in terms of food and activies.

If you have connections go to the North of Brazil where it's much safer and much less expensive.

If not Gracie Barra is in a pretty safe part of Rio so staying in Barra Beach and training there shouldn't be a problem.
Nightlife in Barra is pretty good actually with samba clubs, bars, strip clubs for those who like that and baile funk parties justa short taxi ride away.

Stay away from Copacabana especially at night as that is the Red Light District of Rio and in close proximity to a favela.
