hey guys, I'll be moving to Wicker Park in august. I'll be a student at UIC. where exactly is the school located? I'll be living on greenview, near the blue line stop at division.

What are the rates for like 1-2 days a week of training? Also are there MMA jerk offs there?

I went to may first day of practice at Rio JJ and it was awesome. Pete took it easy on me since he knew that I was out of shape but I felt I got a lot out of 1 day. He was a nice guy that shows genuine concern for his students. The guys that I met were really laid back and welcoming. I never got the sense of any attitudes or egos. They would not crank on a move even when Blue and Purple belts were sparring between themselves, a very respectful environment.

Lopyswine, not sure if they have 1 or 2 day rates but I signed up for 3 sessions a week for a little over $100. It is located about a mile from you, address below and they have plenty of parking. Let me know if you pass by.

I called the other Northside school and after talking to Pedro, I don't think that he was a good fit. I called Rio and spoke with Patricia and it sounds like Pete is the man. They have been open for 6 months so most of his students are white belts. I passed by Rio and it is small, with clean new mats, perfect! It is so small that individual attention should not be a problem. I will let you guys know if I end up joining.

Pete just added a super-beginner session on Saturdays at 11am to get the newest white's up to speed on the fundamentals so they can spar with the more advanced students.

Pete is a great teacher, the atmosphere is very positive and welcoming, and now is a great time to take the dive with the newbie class.

I started training with Pete about two months ago with no wrestling or BJJ experience. Pete's school is very laid back and beginner friendly. Everyone I have met has been extremely helpful and cool. It has been a great experience so far and the teaching style Pete uses has been easy to understand and classes and not intimidating. If you are considering a BJJ school in Chicago it would be a mistake not to come by Pete's class to check it out.
