Possible separated rib?

Last Friday I went for a takedown and my chest landed on the other guy's knee. It drove in about an inch below my right nipple, and I lost my breath and had to hold him down for about 30 seconds before I could continue. I finished off the rest of the class and then I gave it a few days to rest. I went back to class on Tuesday, but I was struggling on the bottom - any weight on my chest and I couldn't breathe. It's painful to get up from a laying position, to do a pushup, or to take a deep breath.

I know there's nothing really a doctor can do, so if I've separated it, how long do I need to rest before I can roll comfortably again? I don't want to take a lot of time off because I've only started recently and I really enjoy it, but if rolling will only keep agravating the injury I don't think I have a choice. The shitty part is the instructor gives you a couple of weeks to try it out before signing up (minimum of 3 months), so I haven't paid yet - but I don't want to go in and pay, then take 6 weeks off or something.

WHAT THE F DO I DO!

Injured my intercostal (rib injury) May 31st of this year during NAGA Milwaukee. It still feels uncomfortable... Been a month of mostly no grappling, some situational sparring this week and it still just feels "weird". Expect to be out for at least 6-8 weeks. Its a crappy injury where you just need to let it heal...

Try having a chiropractor re-align your ribs. I was wrestling shot in and didn't hook his knees right so if felt like hitting a brick wall and I felt my back kinda jam. One of the coach's is also a chiropractor or something of the sort layed me down found the ribs and put them back in place. No problems since. There was a while when we worked gut wrench that my ribs in my back got messed up. Took a few months(with no time off) before the pain finally went away, it was at a point where a DEEP breath would kill. Ribs are a tricky beast.

With my rib injury, it hurt every time I sat up to get out of bed. It was uncomfortable in my sleep to the point I didnt get a good night's rest the whole time. When it first happened I took 2 weeks off. I rushed back in to the gym and it prolonged my injury. I think if I would've just stayed away for one more week I would have been fine. Instead i turned a 3 week injury into a 5-6 week injury. Obviously I can't gauge your injury compared to mine, but I can tell you not to rush back in.
