Overhook/Arm wrap from closed guard
The overhook from the guard is something I am trying to study in depth. I can get triangles and omoplatas from there pretty easily IF I can get in this position.
My problem, however, is to get there in the first place. I only have two ways of doing it :
1) Cross grip the sleeve and pull on it, looping the elbow over my head as I get on my side.
2) I get a good cross lapel grip and I pull hard on the opp., getting on my side like in the other tech. This seems to work when spazzes try to jam their forearm into my throat.
Are there any other ways of doing it? Details I seem to be missing? Also, I have more success getting the overhook in gi as opposed to no gi. Both of the techniques I use to get it involve gi grips. So, any info on getting it in no gi?

Good topic. I wouldn't mind some tips either. A lot of guys are pretty savvy about avoiding the overhook.
I've had some success, when they're postured, by: sitting up, getting an underhook and wrapping an arm around their head, gable grip, overhook with the head-wrapping arm when you break them down.

It is easier to get in no-gi IMHO. With gi, few guys are going to let you break their grip and transition into an overhook.
People seem to get it a lot during transitions, when the guy on top takes an underhook, and the guy on bottom takes the overhook and jumps guard. But from guard, tough to get.
Much easier no-gi because you can knock his hands off your chest real easy. Gi, it is harder to get the arms to the side because they grip the lapel.

Good replies. Keep them coming.
Any overhook wizards out there?
Do you guys know any instructional that covers the overhook from the guard in depth?

My closed guard game is heavily reliant on this, so here is my advice. Eddie Bravo's "Mastering the Rubber Guard" has a very detailed section about getting the opponent's hand to the mat, allowing yourself to hug your knee. Rubber Guard has a majority of techniques stemming from this. What I do is instead of hugging the knee and playing rubber guard (although I do play rubber guard), I'll use the same techniques and get an overhook from my closed guard. This sets up the armbar or pendulum sweep and if I get my hips out to the same side of the overhook, then I'll get an omoplata, kimura, reverse armbar, or take the back.
So, in essence, either get Eddie's book or look it up online (some of his techniques are called The Zombie, The Exhumer, Night of the Living Dead,). Hope this helps. I'm also interested in finding out new techniques to get this overhook.

Yeah that DVD is bad-ass. One of the best nogi dvds I know of. It's all about securing the overhook from closed guard and attacking from there.
