need advice when big people are in your guard
well I have problems when huge guys are in my guard,I'm about 205 ish and often get stuck with guys that are 240 plus,Big guys often will put their weight on me and smother me a bit .I'm tall so this makes it hard for me to get sweeps and subs,I just cant get the room to move when they do this,I was thinking that the butterfly guard would help this but I dont have to much exsperience with it any advice on making room for me to work would be great

How does being tall make it difficult for you to pull off subs? Also: Open guard.

i thought from the title of this thread you'd be a small guy like me 150 lbs training with big guys 200+
you're 205 so you're big. play an open guard. when i roll with big guys i use open guard and play half guard to work a sweep...

Armbar? No need to get knees out, same goes for triangle.
For scissors sweep: Scoot your hips better.
Arm inside sweep: No need to get knees out.
Plus, as I said, open guard.

you're 205 and think you have a hard time with 240, im 135, imagine how i feel against them.
work them like you work everyone else. if they put lots of weight on you when you have guard, stick your hips out alot and do armdrags. nothing like moving real quick and taking their back before they know what happened.

ok bear with me on this because i never feel like i can type out an explanations as well as i can show on the mat. here goes, you need to get them going sideways as they try and put their weight straight down on you. i love doing this to guys who are bigger than me that try and squish me without establishing position. especially from inside my guard.
so there he is in your guard and he comes forward to lay on you or smother you. take your right hand and grab either his right gi cuff or his right wrist wrist and pull it across you (you can also help yourself by using your left hand and pushing on his right elbow to pop the arm across you more.) as you do this reach up and around him grabbing his gi right under his left armpit, or his armpit if no gi. that should shuck him a little off to the side. if he isn't responsive or that good then you just drive the left hand deeper to grab left forearm and pull him around to take his back. you can also pull yourself up and around to try and take his back. i prefer to bring him around and on to me so if he postures out of it your only back where you started.
if he's quick and or good enough to know better, then you have to work harder for this spot. from the point where you have your arm wrapped around him. there is a sweep, but i think i've typed enough for now. but yeah whenever bigger guys play smash & kill make them pay for it by taking them off balance and using their weight against them.
i hope this ramble helps.
