cool, did you go? obviously i couldn't compete, but my team-mate justin fought in both those divisions. took third in no-gi because he got trounced by some black belt straight out of the jungle.... not sure wtf happened to him with the gi, but from what i heard he had no energy left after no-gi because he didn't prepare himself correctly.

He won the black/brown belt, not sure what the division was, but he weighed in at 175. Beat Alex Vamos in the first match on points, then a Hungarian Judo guy who is also a Yamasaki Black belt in the final.
He also won the mens Expet Nogi at that weight also.
He has vidoes of all his matches, I'll post em when I get em.
One was a armlock on a guy that pulled upside down guard in about 5 seconds.
|
i had my eye on him, he was sharp.

Who is going to the NAGA in virgina? It's in two weeks. I'm going to do advanced, rather than intermediate, this time. I want to test myself.

I competed in mens middleweight 170-179expert no-gi. I lost the first match to points. I almost got a triangle, but almost got armbarred also. Had a great match and a great time.

nah.. my opponent jumped guard and we bumped heads on the mat. 1 inch cut just above my eyebrow that wouldn't stop bleeding. you're correct about the shirtless opponent, though

But still Im really glad i did this and im happy that i finally have some competiton exprence

now, now, just because your fighting someone who is willing to cut weight and you are not doesn't give you the right to bash. i agree that novices shouldn't really worry about that too much, especially in teens, but that shit isn't easy and really can give you the edge. and imo is beginning to become a necessary part of competing in this sport like it already is in wrestling and mma.
i think i'm going to cut to the next division down in my next tournament for the first time. i was amazed at the size of the competitors in these divisions. clearly now with day before weigh ins cutting weight is a strong part of many peoples strategy to win.
