My first grappling tournament RESULTS
Well, this weekend I had my first grappling tournament. It went well, I got 2nd. Almost won the championship in the 171-185lb division. I lost in overtime.
I was nervous as hell.
My first match, a little feeling out, fought for wrist control a little bit and i score a real nice high scroth takedown early that got a good crowd reaction. I landed directly into side control. I stayed there for 10-15 seconds and just make sure I was tight on him and controling him. The mount was there so I took it. The guy spazzed and wasted all his energy trying to buck my the first minute i got mount. After 2 mins he was exhausted as i spent little to no energy just ridin it out. I momentarly looked to isolate one of his arms to look for an arm triangle. He bucked and i took his back. I got the RNC within seconds. Strong performance. Was up 10-2 on points before the tap. Im not even quite really sure how he got 2 points.
Second match, much more feeling out, after about a minute of fighting for position i score a underhook knee tap takedown and landed in half gaurd. There was a scramble, then I got side control. Got the far side under hook, then i looked for the kimura, and the far side straight armbar. Almost got it. Time expired.
Championship, danced around for nearly 3 mins, i got double underhooks and looked for the inside leg trip, i ended up losing footing myself and lost position, there was a scramble and he ended up on top in side control. I relaxed and he was being of no threat but just trying to ride out the round. I scrambled and got to my feet and got the inside leg trip. Had mount momentarly, but he trapped my right ankle so i didn't quite establish full mount. The time expired and it was tied 4-4. I lost since he got the first takedown. Damn scoring system.
Had a good time though. Look forward to the next one.
