Yes it is. I wish there was one of those spiffy translators for his website! Also, note that Gordo's is in Barra, not so much Rio. It's an area a few miles west. I believe someone told me you can easily get a bus to go into Rio, but if you're training there, you're best bet is staying there. Plus it's not quite as busy or dangerous or touristy as Rio. I'm pretty sure it was Stu who told me that. (The guy who took on Dyn's thread about Brasil in the G&E forum). And I'm pretty sure Nog's is in Barra also.

On another note training this morning was pretty rough. I started off doing well and then another guy from the states who has his own school in Florida beat me like a drum. I think I spent more time slapping hands after being submitted than I did actually grappling. (he tapped me 6 times in 5 minutes...that's kinda embarrassing)

On a positive note Vitor Belfort came to class this morning and worked out. I didnt have my camera but he said he's coming back on thursday and he said we could get our picture then. I'm pretty stoked about that. He did roll time with us and I almost got paired against him but at the last moment Gordo swapped us out...I was kinda bummed but hey I have 6 months here to get my ass kicked by him.

Anyway, small update for today but I have some good stories for the next longer post. Keep it real guys
im very jealous
my goal in life is to finish school, make enough money then head to Brasil to train. It's the only thing I live for now.

not a lot of tourists in copa right now, but its also offseason/winter, didnt stop it from being damn near 80 though.

i train at de la riva, 75/mo

a lot of people speak english, including DLR, but the technique is taught in portuguese
Ive not seen that video in forever, but werent parts filmed in rocinha? I actually took some tourists there as their guide, lol! Its not so bad if you kinda follow common sense and dont go around with knee high white socks and polo shirt tucked in with khaki shorts and a huge camera snapping fotos!

I love May in Rio, June should be good too. Not many tourists, prices are good and its not too cold yet. Not that it gets cold in july or august but its definetely not filled with beach goers either.

If/when I go back Ill prolly look at De la Riva. I see hes on nsa senora, what is the cross street or roughly what posto is it?

I assume you pay 75 dollars or 150 reals for full time any day of the week? Correct? Seems a bit steep but they are a well known establishment. Maybe you get a discount for paying 2 or 3 months at a time? How many foreighners are training at dlr right now? Im sure they got plenty of bad mofos there!!!

I got price quotes of 100 reals a month the first time I was there and after walking all up and down nsa snra found a place that took 55 reals month with 3 months prepaid for 3x per week. He had some champs there but not like dlr.

R$150 a month is very reasonable, the light bill does not pay itself, not to mention that it is good to give something back to the Professors who provide the tools for us to build our games.

On another note R$55 a month...you get what you paid for. Brasil is a 3rd World country and there are many dirt cheap options here for housing, academies, etc. Again you get what you pay for.

What place in Copa would be best for someone who only trains NoGi? Is there a legitimate MMA school in Copa with NoGi, Boxing, MT, Wrestling etc?

I'm lost how someone can think 75 a month for fulltime training at a world known academy is steep.
