ThePower, how many time you´re going to stay at rio ? you are going to work there ? at which place ?
To live I love barra & recreio but there´re a long trip to "o centro da cidade".
Lucky people that could live in Rio, I´m trying to live in rio for 7 years and didn´t had the oportunity (I have visa, because I´m married with a brazilian woman).
See you !

Hi ThePower, if you're going to train at Gordo's, the best option is to stay at the beggining of barra you've great options there, because you could train at gracie barra and minotauro brother's gym (recreio), the problem is if you like to go discos, etc etc... you have some place at barra, but I it's better on lapa, copa, ipanema etc etc .. If you're going only to train and don't need to go downton, I will stay at barra.
I think this is the location of Gordo's Gym:
Av. Correa de Arajo, 208, rio de janeiro - Google Maps
Sorry, I know my english is really bad.

Actually the beginning of Barra (on the end closest to Recreio) is not the best option, unless you have a car. It will isolate you and you will need to take a bus in order to get to any of the gyms listed.
Here is the address of GJJ (as listed on www.ConnectionRio.com):
R. Correia de Araújo, 208-A - Barra da Tijuca
Rio de Janeiro - RJ, Brasil
CEP: 22611-060
Glad to help you find the academy or call a cab for you.

I stand corrected! That side of Barra is good if you are splitting time between Gordo JJ and Gracie Barra.

For anyone considering going to Fight Zone, I found a funny video taken by some Swedish guys (I think).
The colourful character around the middle of the video is Leo Negao, he lives and trains a lot in England which is why his English is so good. I remember when I first met that guy, I had no idea who he was. He was a visitor at the gym and was passing peoples guards with his arms tucked into his belt behind his back.
