Mock tournaments

Do you think it would benefit a school holding a mock tournament every few months?

Not everyone competes and I am sure alot of people are intimidated to compete in a tournament.

I think a mock in house tourney with timed matches and points calculated would benefit those who are on the fence in terms of wanting/not wanting to compete.

Thoughts?

in house mock tourneys are good to help get in the tournament mindset, and it helps with the nerves.

yeah we do it every once in awhile especially when we have a real one comming up. but i think eveyrone should try a real one out. your always gonna be nervous and a little scared but thats part of it. once u make that first contact with the other person all that goes out the window.

waht we do is have a small league-system going, open weight everybody competes agiants everybody, you gain points for participation and wins, and when you get up to x-amount of points you recieve a badge/medal/trophy

no pressure

yeah, i think it is a good way for students to learn the point system, and know what it feels like to have all eyes on them. I think they're a great idea.

One of the schools I'm with has a mock tournament in January because we host 3 tournaments, January, February, March/April. The mock tourney is mainly for the people who have never competed before, but those of us who have experience really get into it becaue of the team concept. We split up into teams of equal sizes/divisions and do a best record type of tourney. Afterward we concentrate on getting the new people ready for the real tournaments we have coming up.

It's a real wake up call for some people. Those who haven't been to a competitor's workout or competed before are introduced to "evil judo."

We also have a competition team that meets after regular classes and we hold king of the mountain type matches (winner stays, loser rotates to the next mat).

If you plan on competing, get as much experience as you can. The more you compete the easier it is to control things that hold newer people back, like nerves and proper breathing. -ken
