Can you finish a guillotine from bottom if someone has side control?
Watching the last UFC PPV, I think it was the Jackson vs Griffin fight, but I'm not entirely sure. The basic setup was that the fighter on the bottom went for a guillotine from the bottom, with the guy on top in side control. I thought it was possible to finish that choke if you can get enough leverage. So I thought it had a possibility of working but, like all guillotine, you either have it or you don't, close doesn't count. However, one of the more knowledgeable people around me said that it was an impossible move to finish and had absolutely no chance of success.
What is the truth?

Highly unlikely. If I got subbed from side control my instructor would ask me not to come back to the gym. All you have to do is knee on belly to get out.

maybe if ur like, VASTLY stronger than your opponent. the only time i could see it working is if you had the d'arce grip (w/o the arm) on the neck. there ain't no escaping that once it's locked in, a la torres and pulver.

If someone attempts to guillotine you in side control, cant you do that choke where you trap their arm that's "choking" you, get head control with the other arm, lock your hands and drop your shoulder?
It was in a fight a while back, and the fighter that used it named it after himself.

Unless there is a very large skill/strength disparity, it's not going to happen.
I'm sure Marcelo could guillotine me from under side control, but anybody near my level is not going to be able to do it.
To the poster above, you are thinking the "von flue" choke. Which works very well as a no-gi counter. With gi, I just grab the collar and drop my forearm on the throat ... either move ends the guillotine attempt rather quickly.

No, you shouldn't bother wasting your energy on the choke. That could make your arms gas.

I could very well be wrong, but an arm triangle?

They would have to sit up to get any leverage, and then it wouldn't really be side control anymore.
