Marcelo Garcia style guillotine --> Opponent defends by giving up mount.

Here is a scenario that has happened a few times.

I do the marcelo garcia style guillotine with the elbow flared up, but before I am able to throw my leg over their back, the opponent lies down on his back, inviting a full mount.

I still have the head at this point with a solid grip.

Assuming I want to find out the best way to finish the sub, what in YOUR opinion is the best thing to do next?

Some things I have been working with:

1) Mounting the guy with the guillotine and creating an angle and throwing my leg over his back.

2) Continue gator rolling and roll the guy back to his knees to attack the guillotine again.

You just finish the guillotine from mount, no need to throw your leg over his back, when he is on his back. Marcelo finishes from there all the time, I don't really see the issue, it is actually not a defense at all.

That's is exactly what you want.

It's way easier to finish him from the mount.

I have trouble with this as well, the floor blocks my elbow from flaring up, he scrapes my choking arm off his head using the mat and I lose the finish. Any tips?

opponent defends by giving up mount, marcelo counters by choking him out anyway.

You can also do a one handed guillotine if you feel like you cant get legit pressure with the normal grip. Post with the free hand and drive your chest forward and arch your back to get pressure. Important to keep you chest close his body so that he cant get to your choking hand.

If you watch Marcelo finish from mount, the main points seem to be he has one leg up and arches his back to create the space he chokes in.

Well if he slips it off, go to the next move, dont force yourself into only thinking about one submission.
