That is what I am enjoying about it.
Submission aspect aside, it is an extremely strong control grip that based upon the angle forces your opponent into a non-ideal position to employ their own strength. Once locked in it seems the mind locks in to defend, defend, defend and while they are worried so much about the submission, you have full control to do what you wish.
From being on top in half-guard we learned going to the armbar and to the back. It reminds me a lot of the rolling kimura stuff that Diaz does which advances his position versus going for the submission.
