Don't use more detergent or add bleach. All you'll be doing is wasting detergent and destroying your gi.
When washing your gi (and gym clothes for that matter) add a box of baking soda, along with regular amount of detergent and let the gi soak for 15 minutes or so (check to see if you're washing machine has an autosoack option).
Also when drying be sure to use a fabric freshener or if hang drying spray down with a bit of febreze.
Great advice! Thanks. I'm going to try using some baking soda and soaking it for now on. I haven't ever really had too much of a problem, but there is still a little bit of residual funk every now and then.

I know hydrogen peroxide will brighten whites if they get dingy looking. If a fabric freshner, Febreze, and regular washing don't get the funk out then buy a new gi.

thanks for all the help, hanging it in the sun sounds like a good idea so if it smells like outside that's better than any alternative. I was expecting a lot of take more shower comments. I have a black gi so I can't use bleach, but baking soda might work.
