Also, random question, but do you have any tips for finishing the arm triangle from the guard, Aesopian? I'm good at finishing arm triangles from the top because I can put my weight into it, but for some reason I can't finish it from the guard. I know I'm making them uncomfortable, but I just can't finish it. I feel like there is a small detail I'm missing that is vital to finishing it, but I don't know what.

LOVE this choke. Note that it can also be done from side mount --- you reach under his head for his top collar, grab the pant, and sit back.

There is a brutal variation on the finish where you put your knee on the guy's head and pull as you press down with the knee. He will tap FAST, so be gentle with it. I like this from side mount.

Thanks for the cool photos Aesopian.

You can get this from side control, mount and guard. I'll be posting how to use it as a sweep later.

I love this choke too. Im addicted to chokes to begin with but this is one of my favorites. How about doing the single wing lapel choke from the back? Thats my absolute favorite and Id love to see you do a thread on it.

I've been working this choke from the back for the past month. It's extremely high percentage. Even when it fails (cause lapel gets caught across the face) or you lose your grip on lapel, the armbar is just waiting for you. Good post Aesopian. When did you become a moderator?

I was made a mod over the weekend.

I've been waiting for a good lead-in to post more photos. Your comment about switching to an armbar was just what I was waiting for.

So you're going for the choke like normal and have trapped their far arm.

But for some reason the choke isn't working. In this case, it's because I'm reaching up and trying to pull the elbow up and out from behind my head.

Release the knee and trap the arm. You need to have this arm or his knee controlled to prevent him from turning away.

Bring your arm to the other side of the head, pass your leg over and finish with an armbar. If they defend this, you can just take their back again and return to the choke.

You can also often switch to the single wing choke.

Same situation, they're trying to pull your choking arm off.

I release the knee and reach under the arm.

I finish with a single wing choke by straightening my arms.
