The Judo striking art?
The Judo striking art?
I have been told that striking is part of Katas and so on when you advance to blackbeltlevel(?), has anybody done this?
Does this come from the jujutsu background or is it a "new" art on itself? Is this practised much?
Is it blended with the grappling or jsut judokas practising Karate?
We do (in my Dojo) legkicks and how shall I put this.... bitchslaps as warmups and we do sometiems practise throws in Kata form when the attacker throws strikes with either feet or hands. IS this it basically?

Yep. Atemiwaza (striking techniques) are just judo's heritage from old-school jujutsu. It seems simular to karate in my experience. However, at least the pre-dan instruction is about as good as hapkido taught by TKDers. I.E. Worthless.

I don't know of a single competitive judoka (including those who work on MMA) who think judo's strikes are anything other than a joke. No one does them outside of a few katas, and those kata's (like all kata's) are only done for a week before a grading ... mainly because you can't learn to do something by kata. Even the throwing kata's (which you might expect to be good because judo actually is good for throws) are an absolute waste of time.
You only get good at something if you spar using it, and no one spars punching in judo (though quite a few judoka cross train in boxing and now MMA). Judo punching is as good as karate or TKD grappling

Dancing. Actually, judo katas involve two people instead of one. The Tori throws the Uke in a predefined sequence. It is actually very silly since you are restricted to the cannonical throws in the old-fashioned "beautiful" form. They do demostrate certain philosophies or families of techniques, but I think judo kata are overrated even among judoka, who still generally have a low opinion of kata.

Nothing prevents you from training in boxing in the meantime. Hapkido is Korean aikido.

For the most part the atemi waza of Judo is reserved only for the upper dans and even then it's not a big focus of Judo like it was in the old days. Only traditional Kodokan schools teach much atemi at all. Back in the old old days Judo/ Jujtisu tournaments were basically no holds barred matches where death, or disablement were a very real concern. Up until WW2 Judo was trully a MMA, after WW2 they had to down play the bujutsu aspect and be more sport grappling like. Does Judo have striking yes? But 98% your better off going somewhere else for striking. If you want to really mix throwing arts and striking go Hapkido
