Judo reversals
For those of you who dont know, I live in Japan and have been doing BJJ for 5 years give or take. Started in America. Anyway, in my Judo class all the Japanese guys have basic Judo experience from Jr.High school and Im trying to improve my Judo game. My Japanese friends really cant do much in terms of guidance for me (more of a culture thing, than a language thing)
Anyway, Ive got lots of questions, and I know a lot of throw names, and have been taught the mechanics correctly, but dont know counters.
My first question. How do you counter the seo nage. I am assuming you dont let the tori get your armpit, but is a counter throw possibly, or do you just have to attack the back.
Next is the Uchimata. There is a short stocky brazilian Judo BB who can pull off the Uchimata on anyone despite having really short legs. I can stale mate it, but how can I punish him for an unsuccesful Inner thigh throw.
If anyone has any Judo questions, this thread is for you.

Many seoinage-like throws can be countered by stopping his hip motion's momentum before he gets into position (either with your hand or your own hip) and finishing with tani otoshi. In fact, I practicly only use tani otoshi as a counter throw.
I'm guessing sukui nage is possible as a counter to uchi mata, but I'ver personally never tried it yet. Someone else can give you better information here.

uchimata -> te guruma which is basically a leg grab pickup. but if he goes in hard and fast it'll be difficult to pull off
seoi nage -> tani otoshi i guess

http://www.judoinfo.com/techjudo.htm <<< this site works wonders
For Seoi-nage - try putting your leg way out on a 45 degree outside angle from your front, this will allow him to turn you right to where you want to be (make sure your leg shoots out on an angle not straight or you will still go down) then just ride his throw right to your foot and step in front to make your own attack.
For Uchi-Mata - try a Te-guruma if he is taking a back or belt grip or a Uchi-Mata-Sukashi if he is just attacking normal
That site i linked has videos and drawings of every possible throw ... Good luck

Yeah, but no ... As weird as it is and for reasons i don't know they named the throw and the variation the same (until it became popular with the Europeans when it was named Te-Guruma)
Sukui-Nage - http://www.judoinfo.com/images/nauta/sukui.gif
Te-Guruma - http://www.judoinfo.com/images/nauta/teguru.gif
But you were still correct recommending Sukui-nage, most people have stopped trying the actual throw and the European version is the more used ... at least that is what i know about it

i remember seeing a vid somewhere of dave camarillo countering a seoi nage by taking tori's back during tsukuri and then when tori tries to take him over he ducks his head and ends up with both hooks in on the ground
