weather it's judo or wrestling, i think it's pretty important to learn a take down art for mma. anyone tells you being on the bottom is still a neutral position is crazy.
both will help you tremendously when you transitioned into submission grappling.
there are quite a few guys here who does both judo and bjj. the impression that I get is that it's easier to go from a take down art to bjj, than it is the other way around.

Actually, if you're thinking of doing MMA, why not just study MMA? A good club will have both judo and BJJ (as well as wrestling, boxing, MT) etc. In the old days, when there weren't many MMA clubs around, you had to start with a specialty (ie BJJ, judo, boxing etc). Nowadays you'll do better to practice MMA from the start, assuming there's a good teacher. MMA isn't just a combo of individual arts, its an art by itself.

I disagree, coming from a strict keyboardwarrior mind you, haven't fught MMA but...
I think you have to have one area where you are better then your opponent to win, some fighters can succed quite well with being really great at one area of the game even thou they are considerably worse in the others
the only champ I know of that has been a straight MMA (no single art background) guy is Rich Franklin and he isn't the best anymore, he still had his strength standing up.
to trully fullfil your knack your speciallity and make your strength trully worldclass you need to spend years solely doing it

Go with BJJ just because in Judo you'll hardly ever do anything no-gi, if ever.

Do what you prefer. i have always been partial to judo. As far as passivity, it depends on the practioner.
