Roleta, Pe de Pano, and now Ryan Hall!

I watched Ryan at the 2006 Pan Ams and his upside down gave fits to some opponents, before he triangled them!

Can you please give an explanation of how to do this, for those of use who do not have the fortune of training at GB? That video is hard to make out.

I love the Roleta/PDP approach to open guard. All-out assault from every angle. Enough of the koala bear lovin' from butterfly and half guard.

didn't mean to start an argument,

just my own opinion, I like to analyze moves and categorize them for street, non street
for my own personal benefit, I'm not saying it sux.
I'm just saying not for street for me. I'm sure there is a guy that can pull it off
on the street just great. I posted to hear what other people's comments maybe
not to make people roll their eyes up and hit their own heads you know?

And no, I don't do MMA for street, I do MMA training for MMA training
peace brothers!

Vampire,

OK, we understood your POV. No reason to rehash the "street" argument.

GracieMMABarra,

I'm interested too. May you expand a little?

What about the inverted guard for no-gi ?

I can see how you'd do toe holds from there, but not much else. Maybe inverted triangles ? Or sweeps ?

I think that if you've rolled long enough, you're bound to have ended up in that position at some point. I've never used it as offense with the intention of submitting someone, but I've used it for an attempted sweep once, and as a last ditch escape or transition. All of this was with a gi, by the way, so I don't have any experience with the move not depending on grips.
One more thing: It's a nifty move, but why am I trying to me made to give a shit about Ryan Hall's gameplan? Are there that many people gathering around the nearest computer to check up on Ryan Hall's gameplan? And if he's had success with the position from what looks like a dangerous guard, why do you feel the need to explain the reasoning behind it by simply pointing out the obvious? I think the video is a bit contrived, but the embarrassing issue within it is that they're giving the impression that they think me, and everyone else, is really putting some thought into why Hall's guard looks like shit. It's like a completely unnecessary public service announcement.

dont be such an ass I personally like to inverted guard, but I guess its all about what works for you. I hate the spider guard and will only use it for transition and maybe a bicep slicer setup. You are correct tho, I dont think many people think his sitting to guard is weird but you never know

Yeah, I'm just fuckin' with 'em. The video is easy to make fun of, especially given the commercial quality screenplay.
