That youtube video shows his infamous inverted guard to triangle transition. I want to practice that one a bit. Spinning triangles/omoplatas are killer.

talk about a position that would be horrible for street fighting.
you expose your groin, they can rain down knees, your ready to be pile drivered....

Not as horrible as you would think, because you are controlling both arms, and they will be easily swept if they try to drive into you, since your feet are in their armpits and you can easily hook their legs. Not that I would ever dream of doing it ... plus it needs a gi to be very effective. Nobody you fight on the street is going to be good enough at BJJ that you need to pull stuff like this.

I think Nick Diaz may have used this guard with some success in MMA.

I am so fucking tired of this argument. Everyone knows that sport BJJ is not a street fight. If you're truly worried about that just do MMA.

That is similar to the arguement that trainging BJJ in a GI is worthless. Where I come from ppl wear jackets 5 months outta the year. Collar chokes and the like work just fine, I would imagine, on a person wearing a jacket.

Either way, Ryan is a very cool guy. He is super laid back and always willing to help ppl out in the gym.

come on man why are you giving posts like this the time of day? It's funny.. like a bjj fighter will 1) "pull guard" 2) be taken down so he is in his guard 3) on the ground the untrained punk will have such good base that he won't be swept, such good defence that he won't get subbed... Don't you know that the streets are filled with trained pros that know bjj AND mma?
