I had an injury that took me out for almost a year, that injury happen on the same exact day I decided to get back training, after a six month layoff... shit sucked! Had both my hands fucked up.... but that time really helped me appreciate life, and appreciate all the time that I spent training or doing whatever to improve myself.
I'd say that I learned a lot from being injured and not being able to do what I loved... Kinda changed my perspective in life! Sometimes you don't value the simple things in life until it is gone. Good thing it's just an injury and after a few months you should be OK! Just try to stay positive, go watch classes like everyone said, watch dvds, youtube videos, etc, work on your mental aspect of the game!
Use the free time to do other things that you like, play videogames, hang out with friends/girlfriend, listen to music, party, etc... Try to keep busy and to appreciate you time! Life is much beyond BJJ even tho BJJ is a huge part of life!

No worries man! I spent more than 4 months out with a broken foot and when i say four months i mean 4 months of nothing. Used the time to practice other small tech stuff in my game until i could roll 100% again. My coaches and all my rolling partners said i made improvements during my injury, so buck up!!! you can practice all the small details we normally take for granted or just assume we are doing right. That way you can come back stronger in your fundamentals

I know how you feel man, I slipped a disc pretty bad in my neck and have been off for a little over three months. After 6 weeks of PT my nuerologist said I could start lifting again. I also go to the gym to do some conditing workout and drills that kind of mimic rolling. I do 3 rounds of"
1 min of knee on belly/sprawl/switch to other side knee on belly
1 min of jump rope
1 min of shot drills
1 min hipping on the exercise ball
1 min of some movement drill (shrimp, technical stand up, whatever)
I also help teach the beginners class now and don't roll. Since then I've moved up in my class rank in dental school ( a little more time to study ) .
Weird thing is, with all this shrimping, shot drils, conditioning, and knee on belly work, i think I'm going to have a sick knee on belly and side control when I get back. I'm also gonna learn some butterfly guard -- a big hole in my game.

Hey guys thanx for the feedback, i have a small hole in a cartilage, they say i need surgery, i will go tomorrow to another doctor for a second opinion. I'll stay positive and watch some videos. I am lucky it was just my arm, the other day i saw a lady barely walking, her spine was in really bad shape... So.. i'll quit complaining.

The most annoying shit happened last w-e:
I am drunk doing bar hopping with a friend and we start grappling.
He has no grappling experience, so I get to throw him and stuff.
But since he has no experience, I control my throws by holding him back so that he doesn't hit the sidewalk.
But by doing so, I did some jerky motions. Result : I fucked up my back and right shoulder, and haven't trained this week because of that.
I am even fearing that my shoulder may be more hurt than I initially thought, since it is still hurting after 5 days.
I think I was getting pretty good at preventing injuries on the mat, and now I hurt myself like a stupid bum.
At least I didn't hurt him.
No more drunk grappling EVER. I deserved that shit.

Yeah you have to maintain the perspective that the road is long, and this is but a short obstacle. A very short bump.. your elbow will heal and you'll have years to train BJJ.
Make the most of the time; given that you can't actually train, there are other ways to dedicate yourself.

Yeah, I tore my labrum as well. I was out for about a year, because I was walking around with a dislocated shoulder, but didn't know it was dislocated. All I knew was that it hurt to train.
It's easy to get depressed over injuries. Looking back over the times I had to take off, I wish I would have done more studying, and I wish I would have gone to class more, just to hang out. I think that's very important.
