I was out for around 7 months with a shoulder injury. In that time I took up some other hobbies and reconnected with friends I lost touch with b/c of BJJ.

One can study BJJ even while injured. I suggest maybe getting some BJJ books or DVDs.

I was actually just about to start BJJ 3 times a week and MT once a week when I fell down the stairs and tore my PCL. I keep my self sane by being happy that its my PCL and not my ACL and also by continuing my weight lifting by limiting my lower body lifts to low weight and working my upper body. I've been "off" (haven't started yet but o well ha) for about 2 months now. Hoping it gets better soon. Just keep telling your self it could be worse. Atleast you'll be able to roll again!

Injuries are part of the game.

As grapplers we have to be thankful when "grappling gods" leave us healthy and allow us to train.

And we have to be patient when we are injured.

Being injured doesn't mean you need to quit entirely. You can still go to class, watch, and learn. That will help you stay involved with things, and you'd be surprised how much you can pick up just by hanging out and watching carefully.

Also, you might be able to teach some of the newer guys while you are injured. You don't even need to be able to demonstrate to teach. You can pair two people up and just explain to them how to do it. Teaching this way will help you think critically about your techniques and how to best communicate the concepts. When you have to teach something without directly showing it, you are forced to distill the essence of the technique into easily understood instructions.

I'm in the midst of my second long lay off. I am experiencing a flare up of a bad disc herniation. I notice that in the very beginning of my time off I get resentful/bitter/etc and clamor to come back. Then you kind of accept it, do your rehab, work on your fitness and then comeback, such is life. We do a sport where you need 100% of your body to function, right now I'm taking advantage of the extra time to get an A in my grad class.

Get well soon bro...

It sucks.. im three months new to BJJ and I hurt my hip doing something improper about 4 1/2 weeks ago. The hip injury transferred to my Glute due to my work load here in Iraq. I tried to roll at about 70 percent about 2 weeks ago and was completely useless because every move eventually hurt my sciatic nerve.. I basically could not post my feet or bridge.

I just watched a lot of vids and I went to class for the first time in 2 weeks. I wrapped my thigh up to my right buttock and did good.

I learned early in my athletic career trying to come back to soon is just bad business.

BJJ ftw!!!

I'm just coming off a shoulder injury. I took a few days off, but going back to training light with one arm kept me in the groove. Just protect it, and drill every position you can.

Today, however, I noticed ringworm ON MY FACE. So no mat time at all til it goes away. Throwing kettlebells and riding bikes, FTW

missed about a year, last year, broken bone in my foot and then torn labrum inmy shoulder.

study study study, (books, instructionals, and youtube) once i came back, it really helped my game(s), if you're still able to get up and about and can go watch practice, that would be great too. and don't eat your depression and get fat! i should have been alot more active than i was, getting back into shape has been a bitch.
