Injury Depression
I hurt my elbow in practice so bad that i must undergo surgery, and i will miss the rest of these year. I got depressed since i can't train anymore and all my friends will be competing in our national tournament. Do you have any suggestions on what can i do this months that will help me out towards next year when i will be able to comeback to BJJ???

How bad is the elbow?
What about training for a triathlon?

1. don't mope
2. do what the doctors say
3. read books, watch movies, go to class and watch, imerse yourself in the lore
4. private lessons, sure you might not be able to do much technical work, but there are some things that will work very well with simply explination.
5. get a girlfriend, bjs will make you feel alot less depressed

I agree with #5 above. I've only been out a little longer then a week with a knee injury and I'm going NUTZ already. I go to practices anyway, and end up as the designated gimp timekeeper.

Man up. BJJ is for life, so having to take a few months off to take care of any injury is really no big deal in the scheme of things.
My advice would be to do some cross-training to keep your cardio at a reasonable level. Beyond that, look at this as an opportunity to allocate the free time you now have to other aspects of your life -- particularly if there are any that you have been neglecting or that you want to develop.
Keep you chin up and stop fixating on the fact that you can't train right now.

I can relate. I have pretty bad tendinitis in my elbow (with grinding crepitus and physical therapy) and am very concerned that I may have to take a break.
I would suggest taking advantage of the time to sharpen cardio (jogging, cycling, etc), and watch training DVDs, or other things which you might otherwise not have time for. I'd also go to class and watch (just don't succumb to temptation and participate prematurely.)

Out 2 weeks with a knee injury so far. Getting a bit better, but probably another 2 weeks before I can return to full training. I'm just lifting, rehabing the injury, going to the bjj classes to get some light drilling, and focusing on work a bit. It's frustrating, but if I come back stronger, healthier, and having maintained some kind of sharpness thanks to drilling, then it'll be alright.
