How do you pass the one legged x guard/reverse dlr guard?

I don't know what it's called for sure because i have heard it called both... It's either a half guard when your opponent is standing or it's a X guard with one legg trapped between your legs. How do you pass this guard?

you have to fix the hand that is controlling the ankle.

Honestly this sounds to simple but the easiest way is to just reach down and push the hand in the direction his knuckles are facing. Reach on the inside of his arm and push his hand away torwards the knuckles... Once the grip is gone.. pass as usual..

if its the guard im talking about. Looks like a DLR guard but instead of controlling both legs both of the persons legs who is using the guard are attacking one leg of his opponent..

For lack of a better name: One-legged x-guard

1. You’re on your back with some sort of open guard.
2. They are staying away to keep you from underhooking their leg and getting to x-guard.
3. Overhook their right leg with your right arm. This can be loosely, or tightly with their foot in your armpit.
4. Kick your left leg between their legs…
5. …then bring it all the way around and step on their hip. Toes out.
6. Your right foot comes to the hip too, or hooks under the thigh of the trapped leg.
7. Squeeze your knees really tight.
8. Put your right hand on their free knee to keep them away since they’ll be trying to come to you to defend the preceived ankle lock threat.
9. Straighten your body and push on their hip with your hook to make them fall back.
10. You can also grab their free ankle so they can’t step back.

I usually play into the guard and try to flatten my opponent out. he's most dangerous when he is able to move around, lift and drive, if you can flatten him it neutralizes his leverage.

Is this the same guard as what I think of as "leglock" guard position?

These guards are confusingly named. There are a series of "guard" positions from the underhooked leg position. You can bring one leg over for the "legoplata/leglock" type guard. You can bring one or two knees up against the far leg while controlling the ankle (like Marcelo does in that video) for the "shin" guard (which generally I think of as just a sweep, not a guard, since there is only one move from there, the sweep Marcelo does). You can also lock both legs around the far leg for the "sitting/deep half guard." Or you can go to true x-guard.

Once Marcelo's new book comes up, maybe it will clear a lot of this stuff up. For now, the proliferation of guards relating to latching onto a leg with your arm while positioned perpendicular to your opponent is threatening to spiral beyond naming control. In addition to the guards I just named, you also have the "single leg" half guard, the true shin guard, and the regular DLR guard.

This is an effective move though. You can just ankle lock or heelhook him. If he comes in close to try to grab your head, you can grab his free ankle and topple him quick.
