Holding out for the tap *(warning, slightly long)*
Ok, I don't know if I was a prick today. It was no-gi today, and after technique comes open mat. I felt like rolling with someone that I knew was better than me, so I asked this kid that seems to come to every class (including the mma and boxing classes) to go. I reminds me of the "No Resonsibility Guy" in the "Which grappler are you?" thread. He is very good, very technical, very dedicated, very strong (for his size) and very cool. He usually taps me after a pretty good roll at least a few times while we are going at it. Today, he got me twice, once with an armbar and once with whatever... probably another armbar, lol.
Anyway, it was our third go-around and I got side control on him, I think, or got past one leg. Either way, I ended up in his half guard. Now, from here, I tend to use what I can only discribe as a reverse naked choke. I don't know what it's called. Anyway, I had it tight. He wasn't going anywhere. Now, understand that this kid pretty much tools all of the white belts, regardless of size, strength, whatever. He hangs with the blues, and can get a lot of them, too. He wears an orange belt, but the instructor has admitted in class that he's just behind on promotions.
So, I have him in this choke, and he's fighting trying to get out. I tighten it little by little, and I hear a little choking noise, but he's still fighting it. So, I tighten it a little more, finally he taps. I let go and he lays there for a couple seconds, sits up and (while telling me it was a good choke and how he wasn't expeting it) he seems to be a little light-headed. I honestly felt a little bad.
Now, my question is, should I have just let it go when I heard the choke or should he just have tapped sooner? Was I being a turd for wanting to tap this guy that normally taps the crap out of me? Or was he being a prideful, younger guy not wanting to tap to the "old man?"

No you shouldnt have let go, he shouldve tapped. Noises while being choked are very common. I choke guys and they make gurgling sounds, wheezing sounds, and plenty of other sounds you wouldnt normally hear. Unless you were crushing the kids windpipe then you didnt do anything wrong, especially if hes not much youngr and is a more experienced grappler.

Nah, It's a blood choke, but it can get pretty nasty, though.

Doesnt matter. Ive got a spinning choke from knee in belly that makes you feel like your eyes are gonna pop out its so tight, same with a good triangle. Its his responsibility to tap if hes still awake, yours to release the choke if hes not. You didnt do anything wrong.

From what it sounds like you are much, much bigger than him. Is this the case?

No.
The burden is on him to tap if he is in pain or about to go to sleep.

I'd have to agree with Doop. He probably knew he was shittered when you got it, and just wanted to see how long his body could hold out.
