History of the heelhook

Anyone know where this move came from? Was it developed from old Judo, Sambo, Catch, or BJJ? I am interested on its origins.

Good question... don't know. Ask Chuck. He knows all.

Seems like an almost impossible thing to trace. Considering JKD's principles of aliveness and delivery methods, it's likely multiple styles came up with the same move independently, and they'll probably all claim ownership.

what is interesting is the WAY the heelhook used to be trained. older gracie barra guys said they learned it from sambo. but they started using it before they really knew what it did to the knee. can you imagine training heelhooks at full speed? now thats a tough way to figure something out.

I think the first heel hook was used thousands of years ago duringa struggle between homo-erectus and neanderthal. I recall reading that the skirmish was over a cave or something. The weaker homo-erectus was dropped with a club blow to the head and he immediately went for the neanderthal's foot. Problem was that while applying the heel hook, a saber tooth tiger killed both of them.

The biblical figure Jacob's name is translated essentially into "ankle hooker," keying into his deceptive nature.

The heel hook, like countless other moves, is just a damaging manipulation of anatomy. Anyone with any reasoning can conceive the move, and it's likely that the move itself is as old as any Nelson, or arm bar.

Actually is a fact that Satan himself made the move

only someone that evil would invent that move

it was originally called the hell's hook

but later the name was mispelledto avoid the spanish inquisition
just like the san greal- sang real thingy
